If you are wondering how to contact a university about photographing athletics, the person to look for is the S.I.D, the Sports Information Director. At a larger school, look for the specific director who covers the sport you want to shoot.

That is what I have learned from my time working with several different colleges. At smaller colleges it may not be as big of an issue, and you can reach out to the coach, just don't expect a response from the coach. Often coaches don't want to worry about photos and will let the S.I.D do what they want and need to do.

I really lucked out with the weather on this one, and the smoke cooperated too. Instead of dissipating too fast it hung in the air, so the look held from the first athlete to the last.
